In Hampstead, garden centers are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have more time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in North Carolina, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Many nurseries close or shorten hours in winter, so check the listing for current hours and Google rating before you go.

I am leaving this review as a service to the owners. They are knowledgeable, passionate, and extremely accommodating. However, they are retiring and I just purchased the last 3 maples they had in pots. They are selling 10 -15year old trees in the ground. You need to call plenty of time in advance and get directions because it's not where google tells you. You will need to bring appropriate labor to drag it out of the woods by hand. Steel handled shovels to lever them out of the ground, and ropes, straps, and tarps to protect them from wind burn when traveling. This is not for the casual box store plant shopper, but professional landscapers searching for the perfect tree for rich people. CALL AHEAD. APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Paradise in the woods! Tom & his wife are very helpful in picking out the right Japanese Maple for your garden. We have purchased 5 different Japanese Maples over a year ago, this year they are coming so beautiful! It is great to see in person the mature versions of the Maples when buying the younger ones. This nursery is a must see!

Incredible gem tucked away in the forest. Thomas was an expert at his craft and informed us greatly on the species types and care. Along with a nice tour of the property and traditional Japanese pond and structure.
